![]() Name: Christine Daaé Age: 25 Gender: Female Appearance: Long, wavy brown hair, and dark eyes. Likes: Opera, music, fairy tales, stories, violin, singing, ballet, the Angel of Music, French cuisine. Dislikes: Bullies, egotistical people, being forced to do things she doesn't want to, cruel people. Personality: Christine is a very kind girl. She tries very hard not to judge people based on first appearances; however, because of her naive nature, she can be easily manipulated. Christine has a hard time making decisions when it comes to things that will impact her life very greatly, and usually looks to others to make those decisions for her. Even if she strongly disagrees with something, if someone nudges her in the direction they want her to take, she will do what they advise her to. Despite this, she has a very caring, motherly streak in her, and doesn't hurt people's feelings if she can't help it. |
Christine was born in the countryside, in a small house by the sea. Her mother died when she was only six years old, and her father, renowned violinist Gustave Daaé raised her on his own. He would play the violin for her, and tell her fairy tale stories. During the summer time, the Vicomte de Chagny, Raoul, would come to the countryside with his family and older brother. The two quickly became childhood friends, and would spend the summer days playing in the ocean, exploring the attic, and listening to her father's stories and his music. However, this was not to last. Gustave soon found himself in need of money, and so the pair left to Paris. Gustave could not secure himself a place back in the orchestra at the Paris Opera House, and so he would stand on street corners and play there, as well as at fairs and festivals. Christine would sing alongside him, and many were charmed by his music and her voice. They had enough money to survive, a roof over their heads, and each other....that was all that mattered. Gustave became ill when Christine was twelve years old, and despite the doctor's attempts to cure him, he could not fight his sickness. Gustave died, and promised her that one day he would send the Angel of Music to her. He left her in the care of his wife's best friend, Madame Giry, the ballet instructor at the Opera House. Madame Giry took her under her wing, and treated her as if she were her own daughter. Life at the Opera House was much different than the life she had known before. The life of a ballerina was tiring, but she soon became accustomed to the routine. She was treated like anyone else, but had to deal with her fair share of bullying, due to the popularity of her father. She befriended Madame Giry's daughter, Meg Giry, and the two managed to help one another through the trials and hardships they faced. Meg Giry was the one who told the girls and her mother about the "Devils' Child", whom she had seen at the freak show, and witnessed his escape. Christine first faced the biggest trial when her bully tricked her into going to the chapel, where a man who was promised to have his way with Christine waited. Christine was frightened, and Erik - who would later become her Angel of Music and the Phantom of the Opera - rescued her from this encounter. She was unsure whether her savior was an angel, the ghost of her father, or an actual person. This confusion would last for some time. Shortly after, a boy named Phillipe came to the Opera House. Madame Giry wanted one of her ballerina girls to dance with him for an upcoming show, and held auditions for the one who would dance with him. Christine quickly developed a crush on him, and he with her. In a jealous rage, her bully (who was deemed as the best ballerina in the Opera House) put glass shards in her ballet slippers, damaging Christine's feet so she wouldn't be able to dance with him. When Erik learned of this injustice, he decided to take action, and on the night of the performance, murdered the bully and framed Phillipe (whom he was jealous of) for it. Thus began the reign of the Opera Ghost, and that night, he coaxed her to the dressing room and declared himself her Angel of Music. "Angel of Music, guide and guardian, grant to me your glory!" Christine's tutelage under Erik's guidance proceeded very well, especially as she grew older. They met at night, when the rest of the residents were sleeping, so as to prevent interruption. The Opera Ghost quickly became something to be feared, playing dangerous pranks on those who defied him and demanded money and special privileges from the manager. Christine never connected the Opera Ghost with her Angel, her devotion and loyalty to him too strong. When Christine turned sixteen, a young woman from Italy named Carlotta arrived at the Opera House. The manager and patron adored Carlotta's voice, and she soon became the prima donna of the Opera House. This disturbed Erik's plans, for he had hoped to reveal Christine to the public that year. But he bided his time, teaching Christine all that she needed to know, falling more in love with her, and she with him, even though she did not know him. "...let my opera begin!" When Christine turned 19, the manager soon found himself unable to take the stress of dealing with the Opera Ghost now that he had begun to turn more murderous and violent. He quickly hired Messrs. Firmin and Andre to take his place as managers, and, to Christine's great surprise, the new patron who was none other than Raoul. Christine was thrilled and yet apprehensive to know that her childhood friend had arrived, believing that he would not recognize her. Due to a series of unfortunate events, Carlotta refused to sing the lead role in the opera Hannibal. Meg and Madame Giry quickly recommended Christine for the job, and after she had given them a demonstration of her voice, they knew she would be the one to sing the part. She made her debut that very night, and the audience adored her. Christine was modest, and gave full credit to the Angel of Music for her spectacular performance. To her delight, Raoul did recognize her, but would not listen to her when she tried to explain that the Angel of Music would not like her venturing out with another. Erik, who had listened and watched the entire conversation knew that it was time to act, and brought her to his underground lair. There he serenaded her, and she grew even more enthralled by the power he had over her. However, her curiosity over who her mysterious angel was got the better of her, and she removed his mask, which shattered the illusion Erik had so carefully created. He returned her back to the world above unharmed, however, his love for her as strong as ever. Christine spent the next couple of days recuperating from the shock, as well as the huge abundance of admirers she now had. The managers informed Madame Giry, that they were not going to follow the instructions of a mere phantom, despite her warnings. |
